Forest Heath District Council Press Release 21 Apr 2009
NEW lighting is making the Guineas car park in Newmarket a brighter place. Forest Heath District Council had experienced a number of problems in the multi-storey car park with light fittings and lamps being stolen or smashed. The new lights, now in place, are energy efficient 70w fluorescent lamps which meet the Carbon Trust's guidelines, will last longer and provide an 8% saving. They also meet the national Park Mark Safer Parking standard. Mounted onto concrete beams, the new equipment produces more light in the car park. The old lights, which have been recycled in line with the council's Sustainability Strategy, were fitted in voids in the ceiling. Seven light fittings were purchased as a trial within the car park to see how they would perform before the new lighted was rolled out across the car park. McIntyre Electrical Ltd. has completed the works with minimal disruption to car park users, with works over road areas taking place after 6pm.
